Website Review

Salam and Selamat Sejahtera

You are to review one ESL teaching and learning website which will also be one of the links to your personal webpage. The website could be a place for the learning of any of the skills e.g. writing, reading, listening, speaking, and grammar or all in one.You are to give your opinion of the website from the perspective of an ESL student.
The following are some suggested questions that would help your review. These questions are by no means exhaustive, thus feel free to add your own questions:
  • What is the website about?
  • Does it teach what it is supposed to teach?
  • Are the tutorials easy to understand?
  • Are there sufficient and relevant examples?
  • Are there a variety of exercises on the website for practise of the skill?
  • Are the exercises & quizzes challenging?
  • Are there feedbacks for the exercises and quizzes? What are the types of feedback given (e.g. "Good", "Wrong", animation or sound)?
  • Do the feedbacks explain why your answer is wrong or it just states 'Try Again" or "Wrong"?
  • Do the exercises progress from easy to difficult?
  • Do you gain new knowledge from the website?
  • Do you think you have learnt everything you want to know about the skills from the website?
  • Does the website look interesting?
  • Is the website well-organized or is it too cluttered?
  • Are the colours used appropriate?
  • Are there animations, sounds, pictures on the website?
  • Would you recommend this website to your classmates?
Please do not just state "yes" or "no" to the questions. You need to explain your answers.

You can utilize any software to create your webpage e.g. Microsoft Pubsliher, HTML, Front Page, Geocities etc, or another blog (not the blog you created for this class, try other weblog service provider e.g. multiply.com, wordpress etc).

Your personal webpage should include information about yourself, images, links, etc. One of the links must be to an English as a Second Language (ESL) learning and teaching website with your review.

Deadline October 17 2008. Other than blog or geocities, you need to submit your assignment in a CD.

Webpage - 15%. - You will be evaluated on the layout, creativity, content (how informative your webpage is) and language.

Review - 5% - You will be evaluated on your comments of the ESL website you have chosen. Your comments should include your personal reactions toward the site such as the layout, language learning opportunities, activities, exercises, games, quizzes included in the website etc.
